Where's My Refund?

This is a common question this time of the year. A lot of our clients when they stop by to pick up their tax return want to know how long it will take to get their refund. The technical answer is less than 21 days, but most people want a more accurate date.

You can check the status of your refund 24 hours after you have e-filed it or 4 weeks after you have mailed it in. All you need is 3 pieces of information: Your Social Security Number or ITIN, your filing status (single, married, head of household, etc.) and your exact refund amount.

Armed with those 3 pieces of information head to https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Including your bank information on your tax return will allow your refund to be direct deposited into your account and will reduce the wait time for your refund. It will also eliminate the risk of your refund check getting lost in the mail.

Once you know the date you will get your refund you will know when to book that vacation, pay down that debt, or whatever you have planned for your refund.
